Private Waters Fly Fishing

Our Montana fly fishing guides offer private fishing trips on the famous Paradise Valley Spring Creeks. These trips are perfect for anglers looking to catch large trout in technical fishing conditions away from the crowds.

Fed by pristine underground springs, the DePuy Spring Creek and Armstrong Spring Creek remain clear and fish well during runoff season. Both creeks run on a reservation basis, and the number of anglers is limited each day.

Due to limited capacity, we recommend booking your trip in advance so we can secure your spot.

Book a full- or half-day walk-wade trip on beautiful Southwest Montana private creeks and test your technical fly fishing skills.

Seasons for Armstrong & DePuy Spring Creek Fishing

The Paradise Valley Spring Creeks are fishable year-round, with each season offering unique rewards and challenges for Montana trout fishing.

Spring

From March to June, consistent hatches of mayflies, midges, and caddis kick off the dry fly action.

Armstrong Spring Creek has prolific fly hatches in March, bringing trout activity to the surface.

In DePuy Spring Creek, anglers can expect to find large rainbows coming from the Yellowstone River, looking to spawn.

Summer

From July to August, insect hatches like pale morning duns (PMDs), tricos, and caddis create phenomenal dry fly fishing conditions on both Armstrong and DePuy.

Long summer days provide ample time on the water to stalk cruising trout.

Fall

From September to October, cooling temps cause trout to aggressively feed.

Large streamers and baitfish patterns can work particularly well in the fall.

Terrestrials like hoppers and beetles are also effective, and baetis hatches in mid-September allow for dry fly fishing.

Winter

From November to February, many Montana waters may freeze over.

But Armstrong and Depuy Spring Creeks stay warmer due to their underground source, encouraging the fish to continue feeding.

Nymph fishing can be successful during this season.

Armstrong Spring Creek Fly Fishing

Armstrong Spring Creek originates from a large underground spring just east of Emigrant, Montana, in Paradise Valley. Lush bankside vegetation, glassy currents, and gentle riffles create an exceptional trout habitat.

It flows north and allows 1.5 miles of private spring creek fishing on ranch lands before going through the property and joining the Yellowstone River.

Armstrong is a rainbow trout factory that produces incredible numbers of healthy, aggressive rainbows between 14 and 20 inches. These selective trout are the perfect dry fly prize, but they also take nymph patterns dead-drifted through the clear riffles and pools.

DePuy Spring Creek Fly Fishing

Born from underground springs, DePuy Spring Creek is the bottom half of Armstrong and flows north before joining the Yellowstone. It passes through willow-lined banks and open meadows, offering one of the most scenic fly fishing experiences in Montana.

Like Armstrong, DePuy Creek harbors a massive population of rainbow trout that average 16” and take advantage of the constant insect life.

The key difference is DePuy's abundance of large brown trout that lurk in its deeper pools and undercut banks. A carefully presented streamer or bushy dry fly can trigger ferocious strikes.

Fly Fishing Trip Reviews

Putting it mildly, Tucker was beyond fantastic with my nine year old and I, who were novices at best.

Not only was he tremendously patient, he was engaging and helped us find a love of fly fishing. We already want to plan our return trip and chartering with Tucker.
